Yoduk Story
North Korean Gulag Musical Makes Its Way to the U.S.

Yoduk Story, a musical focusing on the horrors of the prison camps of North Korea, is making its U.S. premiere in Washington, D.C. The show will debut at:

The Music Center at Strathmore, MD
October 4th-6th, 7:30 PM.

The show will then premiere in Los Angeles from October 19th-22nd at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, details of which will be given at a later time.

Yoduk Story is the brainchild of director Jung Seong-San, 37, a North Korean defector who fled to South Korea in 1994. The musical is held almost entirely on the grounds of Yodok Camp, a hellish world of brutal torture, rape, and starvation. The plot begins around a state actress whose family is arrested because of her father’s “unpatriotic acts.” Numerous songs and dances represent the atrocities committed daily in the prison camps of North Korea.

The musical first debuted in South Korea, where it was seen by an estimated 80,000 people. Featuring a beautiful set with well-crafted songs, dances, and troupes, the musical aims to raise awareness here in the U.S. We encourage all readers to attend the musical, as a production of this sort is unprecedented and the first of its kind!

LiNK HQ Staff Introductions

This month LiNK Headquarters welcomes two new staff members!

Hannah Song is joining LiNK HQ as Associate Director. Ms. Song has served as LiNK’s Associate Director for approximately two years, and as LiNK’s work has increased in depth and scope, she recently decided to leave her career in New York City to devote more time to this pressing issue. Ms. Song is a graduate of NYU, and has extensive experience in advertising, media, and marketing.

Michelle Paek grew up in Korea, Arizona, and Las Vegas, NV. She moved yet again to San Diego for college in 2003. She is now a senior at the University of California-San Diego majoring in Ethnic Studies and working towards her minor in Studio Art. In her free time she can be found working on random art projects (ranging from digital images to oil paintings to sculptures out of recycled materials), reading Christian literature, or practicing basic chords on the guitar. Michelle is joining LiNK as a full-time intern through the UC-DC program and will work at HQ until November.
