Global Warming is causing problems in North Korea, right

SEOUL, March 29 Asia Pulse - North Korea had been badly hit by global warming, a North Korean official said, reflecting that the reclusive country was no exception in being affected by abnormal climatic phenomena.

The director of the Central Meteorological Institute of the DPRK (North Korea), Ryu Ki-ryol, said that in recent years the temperature in the North had risen two or three times the global average in the 20th century, according to the (North) Korean Central News Agency on March 23.

On the occasion of World Meteorological Day, Ryu said: “The high atmospheric pressure formed in the Sea of Okhotsk brought cold to the east coast of DPRK in recent years.” The Sea of Okhotsk is northeast of North Korea.

The only good thing is that this the second time this month that the country has admitted to something that is beyond their control. The first one that they cannot feed all their people, now they admit they cannot control the weather. It is not the forum to debate Global Warming, but we can all agree that Global Warming is the last thing North Koreans have to worry about.

The UN is Useless Part CXXIV

Posted by S.K.

By now most people know that I have low opinions on the capabilities of the UN to fight human rights abuses. Unfortunately, they are only institution who can get the world together to act. And unfortunately, the new UN Human Rights Council is still sitting on their hands. Publius Pundit highlights a couple of things they did this week and thing they have done since its inception. In short, unless you are Israel, every country is off the hook.

Throwing a Curveball

Speaking of throwing things, Christoper Hill threw this at the North Koreans

Korea-U.S. experts said that the February 13 Beijing agreement to address North Korean nuclear issues should be carried forward as a stepping stone for peace on the Korean peninsula and its denuclearization, and that it is important for North Korea to implement the agreement faithfully.

An international conference held at Georgetown University under the joint sponsorship of the Hwajeong Peace Foundation of the Dong-A Ilbo, the Ilmin International Relations Institute, Korea University and the Georgetown Center for Asian studies was attended by experts, and the U.S. administration senior officials on March 26 (local time) at a time when the Peninsula’s situation is changing dramatically after the 2.13 agreement.

On that day, Christopher Hill, head of the U.S. delegation to the six-party talks and Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said at the conference, “To normalize relations between North Korea and the U.S. completely, North Korea should reach an international standard which they are short of in terms of issues such as human rights.”

Who would like to bet that the North Koreans are as willing to follow through with this as willing the US handing back $25 million?
