Why NK?
So why am I doing this? I’m just a college student with absolutely no ties in the Korean pennisula. And yet, one day I decided to start a blog on North Korean Human Rights and taught myself web design do make the site you see today.
Before I began this site, I had previous blogging experience. First, it was a personal blog (otherwise known as a Xanga). But I got sick of talking about myself. Then it was a political blog. I still retain the same political belief I’ve held since high school, but I got sick of the left-right divide.
So it was around January of 2006. I attended the LiNK Winter Summit in Washington DC. Now there was a group of motivated people trying to change the world. By that time I’ve quit blogging for a couple of month. By the end of the summit I was ready to start again. So towards the end of February of 2006, “Are You Nkay?” was launched.
The blogosphere at that time was packed with personal or political blogs. Blogs on North Korea, on the other hand, was sparse. I figured blogging about North Korean Human Rights was the perfect niche. It’s more motivating trying to find what to write than to have to choose what to write.
Ultimately, this blog is about supporting LiNK and supporting the issue of NK Human Rights. Hopefully, I can help bring some needed resources over to the real heroes, people you’ll never know their name, working in China, risking life and limb, helping North Koreans to freedom.
I hope I can inspire you as it had inspired me.
